The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has decided to prosecute Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, for allegedly acting irrationally toward police officers assigned to carry out their official duties.
According to the Police, obscenities allegedly hurled at officers who were on duty and recorded in a popular video are illegal acts that are punishable under Nigerian law.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, FPRO officer CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi noted that the singer’s behavior in the video was disorderly.
Adejobi went on to say that the actions were likely to disrupt the peace and encourage violence against the officers who were assigned to apprehend him in response to a number of criminal accusations made against Mr. Portable.
In accordance with the gravity of the offense, the NPF, in his words, “will take all necessary efforts to examine his acts and guarantee that he is prosecuted for any illegal behavior he may have undertaken.
“The Police will not tolerate any disorderly act, assault, or attack on its officers who are performing their official duties.”
“We need to respect our law enforcement agents who perpetually take the risk of maintaining law and order and fight crimes and criminality in our society”.
