As Manchester City defeated West Ham 3-0 on Wednesday night, Erling Haaland, their striker, broke a long-standing Premier League record.
At the Etihad, the first half had ended scoreless.
Four minutes after the half, Riyad Mahrez’s free kick was headed in by Nathan Ake to give the champions the lead.
Haaland sprinted onto a feed from Jack Grealish in the 70th minute, and he hoisted the ball over Lukasz Fabianski to make it 2-0.
In his first season in England, Haaland scored goal number 35 in the Premier League, a record.
He has now surpassed Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who previously held the record of 34.
With one outstanding game remaining, City has reclaimed the top spot with 79 points, one more than Arsenal.
