Over the course of his 12-year reign at the top, Nigerian afrobeat musician David Adeleke, nicknamed Davido, has thought about how the genre has changed.
The ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ singer claimed that the African music scene then when he began, and now are not the same.
He mentioned how the afrobeats industry went from being underfunded to being worth billions of dollars.
The first issue of the Native Now Magazine was covered by Davido.
Afrobeats musicians, according to him, are now improving lives and communities in addition to earning millions of dollars.
He said, “Afrobeats now and then is different, it’s a multi-billion dollar industry.
“You can’t compare it to years ago when we were just faffing around.
“We were making amazing music and a lot of money but now people are changing communities, changing lives.”
