Superstar Lionel Messi of Inter Miami has announced his intention to rejoin Barcelona.
The 36-year-old acknowledged that there was a “bitter taste” in his mouth after leaving the Nou Camp in 2021.
Messi said goodbye to Barca because the team was unable to afford to extend his contract due to financial difficulties.
When given the option to rejoin the Catalans this summer, he chose to sign with Inter Miami instead of Paris Saint-Germain, where he had joined as a free agent.
Messi, who won his record-tying eighth Ballon d’Or in Paris on Monday night, has stated that he intends to make up for not having had the opportunity to properly say goodbye to Barcelona supporters.
There was a harsh aftertaste that I didn’t enjoy after I left. I wish the narrative had come to a different conclusion.
“It’s time for me to say goodbye to the folks who brought me so much happiness. Naturally, I’ll be delighted to be there if it happens,” he said to reporters.
