Kobbie Mainoo, a midfielder for Manchester United, said that both of his parents are from Ghana.
After being included in England manager Gareth Southgate’s team for the March international friendly against Brazil and Belgium, Mainoo expressed his happiness while saying this.
As they prepare for the Euro 2024 this summer, the Three Lions play Brazil on Saturday night at Wembley in a friendly that might see Mainoo earn his first England cap.
The 18-year-old said to the media prior to England’s match against Brazil that he was taken aback by his inclusion in the first team and that his family was overjoyed.
“It’s been a pretty mad couple of days. Getting down here and realising that I was with the first-team was amazing. I was shocked and happy – and it’s been a whirlwind of emotions,” Mainoo said.
“But being at England is an amazing opportunity and I’m enjoying it so far. I think that is the end goal for the season, to get into that squad [for the Euros].
“Both [my] parents are Ghanaian and my whole childhood was football, really. It is just been football, football, football and I have enjoyed every second of it.”
