The Elmina Magistrate Court has issued an injunction against the ongoing NPP polling station elections in the Central Region’s Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) constituency.
This is the result of a misunderstanding about the start dates for the various polling station elections.
Three plaintiffs, all of whom are aspiring polling station executives, petitioned the court to order the Election Committee to redraw a timetable for the elections and make it public for the benefit of all interested parties.
They claim that the election schedule has been changed several times, and as a result of their frustration, they want the court to intervene to ensure justice and equity.
Speaking to Citi News, Francesca Aku Brown, a polling station Chairperson hopeful for the NPP for Council Lane polling station at KEEA and one of the plaintiffs, stated that some candidates were declared unopposed in previous elections held in some polling stations without the consent of their competitors, thus their action.
“They don’t follow the schedule. You won’t hear anything except that they’ve finished voting. It sparked violence in some areas. We don’t want anything similar to happen here. That is why we took the case to court.”
“They set the date for Saturday, but it didn’t come on when we went.” Then they said Tuesday, which also couldn’t happen. They only serve to irritate us. “They are declaring a large number of people unopposed without the consent of their opponents.” Francesca Aku Brown stated, “We want Justice to triumph.”
The Chairman of the KEEA polling station election Committee for the NPP, Percival Dennis Quaicoo, the defendant in the case, stated that they would respect the court’s decision and continue the elections after the court processes were completed.
“I’m not sure where they want us to publish the voting schedule.” We have been informing aspirants of the dates for the last few days. “This is how politics works.” Anyone can speak their mind, but the truth is that the elections have been halted.”
