Former President John Mahama has expressed his condolences to the families of the nine students killed in an accident on Sunday.
Mr Mahama wished those injured a speedy recovery and lamented the death of the University of Education, Winneba students who died while traveling at Asuboi.
In response to the tragic loss, the former President remarked, “What a sad waste of young lives in the Asuboi accident!!”
In a Facebook post, he stated that the fatal accident could have been avoided if proper precautions had been taken.
As a result, Mr. John Mahama advised, “Drivers of intercity coaches and other public transportation vehicles must exercise a little more caution with the lives of our citizens entrusted to them.”
On March 13, a Hyundai Universe commercial bus carrying University of Education, Winneba students, and other passengers were involved in an accident.
The accident happened on the Accra-Kumasi highway in Asuboi, a Suhum suburb.
The accident occurred when a bus traveling from Sunyani to Accra collided with a stationary articulated 40-footer truck.
According to reports, eight people were killed when a 40-footer truck loaded with wood fell onto the road.
When the many injured were transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment, another life was lost. So far, nine people have been killed.
The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital morgue.
The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, has stated that investigations into the incident have begun.
