Danlad Ibrahim of Asante Kotoko has been called up to the Black Stars for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
Ibrahim, who has excelled since taking over as Kotoko’s first-choice goalkeeper after Razak Abalora left for Moldava, has been called up by the Black Stars technical team led by Otto Addo.
This season, he has eight clean sheets in 11 league games.
Although Ibrahim is performing well, Ghanasoccernet.com understands that his inclusion is due to the injury to Hearts of Oak number one Richard Attah.
Attah was in contention for selection until he was injured two weeks ago while playing for the Phobians in their 1-0 loss to Aduana Stars in the Ghana Premier League.
On Monday, Ibrahim was named to the bench as Kotoko shared the spoils with Eleven Wonders in Techiman.
He will join the Black Stars in Kumasi on Tuesday to continue preparations for the two crucial games.
Ibrahim was a member of Ghana’s U-20 team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania last year.
Not only was he a member, but he was also the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, and he was named best goalkeeper.
Earlier this month, Kotoko coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum backed Ibrahim for a Black Stars call-up following his man-of-the-match performance against Bechem United in a 0-0 draw.
“He is a talented goalkeeper with good leadership qualities.” “He’s good with his feet and hands, and I believe he’s ready for a national call-up,” Ogum said.
The Black Stars will begin their preparations on Monday evening with their first practice.
They will travel to Kumasi on Tuesday for two training sessions before the first leg on Friday, March 25.
The return leg will take place four days later at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The winner of the tie will represent their country at the World Cup later this year in Qatar.
Ghana is aiming for a fourth appearance after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia, while Nigeria is aiming for a seventh.
