Mr. Peter Obi, the Peoples Democratic Party’s vice presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, declared his intention to run for president in 2023 during a meeting with Anambra State monarchs on Thursday, vowing to move Nigeria forward if given the opportunity to lead the country.
Obi’s declaration came shortly after the PDP’s presidential candidate for the 2019 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, declared his interest.
On Wednesday, Atiku, who ran as Obi’s vice-presidential candidate, declared his interest.
Obi, who made his declaration in front of Awka’s traditional rulers on Thursday, said he chose to inform the monarchs first in order to seek their blessings and prayers.
“I’m speaking to the traditional rulers because before anyone embarks on a journey, he must first inform his fathers.” I am writing to inform you, my fathers, that I intend to run for President of Nigeria.
“You know who I am and how Nigeria is today.” In 2019, I backed Atiku as my vice presidential candidate, but today I want to stand on my own.
“I came to seek your blessings as the state’s traditional rulers.” “I am here to inform you, as my own fathers, that I am running for President of Nigeria,” he said.
After carefully evaluating and analyzing Nigeria’s current challenges, the former Anambra State governor concluded that the country was at its lowest ebb and required someone like him to move it forward.
He stated that he firmly believed in a united Nigeria and entered the race to move the country forward and secure it.
“If elected President, I will secure Nigerians, create jobs for the country’s teeming youths, and lift Nigeria out of poverty.”
“I have managed resources proudly in everything I have done.” I want to see this country progress. I am a Nigerian who believes in a united Nigeria and wishes to see it secure.
“I don’t just want to be a politician; I want to serve and help move the country forward.” “I have everything it takes to be president and move the country forward,” he continued.
Speaking during the session, Senator Uche Ekwunife of Anambra Central Senatorial District urged the royal fathers to back Obi with their royal blessings.
“This is to inform the state’s traditional rulers to pray for Peter Obi’s presidential ambition,” she added.
She urged traditional rulers, who are the custodians of community traditions, to inform their people that Anambra is running for president, noting that it is not just Peter who is running, but the entire state and country.
