Abiodun Alabi, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, has reiterated the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) ban on police officers performing official duties while on mufti and urged members of the public to report any officer who violates this directive so that the command can take appropriate disciplinary action.
The commissioner issued a strong and unequivocal warning to all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPO) in Lagos State to ensure that their men strictly adhere to this directive.
The warning, according to the command, is in accordance with an earlier directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, that officers on patrol and stop-and-search duties must wear approved uniforms.
This information was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundyin, on Saturday, March 26, and can be found on the Lagos Police Command’s official Twitter account.

Alabi stated in the statement that the command would hold accountable any supervisor or head of the department whose jurisdiction this directive was violated.
“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, has strongly and unequivocally warned all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in Lagos to strictly ensure that their men do not carry out police duties in mufti,” reads a statement from the command.

This warning is in accordance with an earlier directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, requiring officers on patrol and stop-and-search duties to wear approved uniforms.
“As a result, CP Alabi has vowed to hold vicariously liable any supervisor or Head of Department whose jurisdiction this directive is violated.
The general public is hereby urged to report any officer seen on duty in mufti in order for the command to take appropriate disciplinary action. ’’
