Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has stated his desire to become President of Nigeria in 2023 in order to end the country’s hydra-headed problems, particularly insecurity.
“Just look at what happened two days ago when bandits tried to take over an international airport,” said the two-term governor and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, who recently declared his intention to run. Bandits are no longer kidnapping people in buses; instead, they are attempting to take over Kaduna International Airport.
“What does that mean for our country?” What does this mean for investors? How did they get here? What transpired? There is no intelligence. The current administration is not doing enough; there is no commitment.
“As a leader, you have a responsibility to oversee and supervise what is going on.”
The governor also stated that he would put an end to oil bunkering in the country’s south.
He will not, he says, engage in television rhetoric like the incumbent President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), nor will he issue orders to the media. Wike, on the other hand, stated that he would lead from the front and ensure that the service chiefs did their jobs.
When asked if the PDP has the moral right to return to power after an eight-year absence, Wike responded, “Certainly, Nigerians have compared and seen; we were thinking that these guys (All Progressives Congress) are saints; we didn’t know that they have the worst record.” It is regrettable. Nigerians were told all kinds of lies in 2015, and today, Nigerians are saying
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso are among the PDP members who have expressed interest in running for the party’s presidential ticket in 2023.
Aside from northern politicians, some southern stalwarts have expressed interest in clinching the PDP’s 2023 presidential ticket, including former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; and media personality, Dele Momodu, among others.
Other presidential contenders include APC leader Bola Tinubu, Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, ex-Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, former Governor of Abia State and Senate Majority Whip, Senator Orji Kalu, and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has also been rumored to be planning a bid to succeed his boss in the 2023 election, but the law professor has not made his intentions public.
