On Thursday, gunmen allegedly set fire to the home of Ford Ozumba, the Imo state commissioner for labor, employment, and productivity.
The attack was said to have taken place in the commissioner’s hometown of Umuhu-Okabia in the state’s Orsu LGA.
According to reports, the attackers threw petrol bombs into the compound.
Ford confirmed the attack on Friday, saying there were no casualties because no one was in the house at the time of the attack.
“We were all in Owerri when we found out this morning that my family’s house had burned down,” he said.
“The attackers wreaked havoc in the dead of night,” I was told. Petrol bombs were thrown into the compound.
“What a depressing day. Last night, hoodlums burned down my family’s compound in my village.”
The attack is the latest in a string of attacks on government officials’ and residents’ homes in the state.
Gunmen set fire to George Obiozor’s house in Imo earlier this month, the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide.
The country home of Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma was attacked in April 2021, with a section of the building razed and two security guards killed.
Gunmen invaded the compound of Declan Emelumba, Imo commissioner for information and strategy, in Ubulu-Ihejiofor, Oru West LGA of the state, weeks after the attack on Uzodimma’s house.
