Accountability Lab Nigeria, a global anti-corruption organization, has expressed concern about the level of corruption in the country’s procurement and contracting processes.
According to the group, the country has lost billions of dollars as a result of this, with bribe-paying Nigerians spending an average of N28,200 per year on cash bribes.
According to a statement he personally signed on Saturday, the group’s Country Director, Odeh Friday, stated this during an integrity conference organized by Accountability Lab in Abuja.
“Unethical practices and the cost of corruption in procurement/contracting processes and service delivery have resulted in billions of dollars in losses,” the statement said.
“In addition, bribe-paying Nigerians spend an average of N28,200 on cash bribes each year.”
“Many people have been left behind in governance and decision-making processes due to a worrying lack of integrity and accountability within society.”
