Terrorists are said to have killed about 15 soldiers and three civilians in an attack on a military camp in Poll Wire, Kaduna State’s Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Terrorists said to be traveling in large numbers from Niger State to Zamfara State via Birnin Gwari allegedly launched a deadly attack on the military camp.
The attack happened around 5 p.m. on Monday, according to sources in Birnin Gwari who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
The terrorists, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, engaged the soldiers in a fierce gun battle at the camp, according to the source.
He speculated that the terrorists may have been able to outnumber the soldiers due to their sheer numbers.
A military armoured tank was also said to have been burned at the camp by the criminals.
“The attack took place at a military camp at Poll Wire around 5 p.m. on Monday,” the source said.
“There were a lot of them.” The Kaduna highway took them more than an hour to pass through. They were traveling from Niger to Zamfara states.
“After a fierce gun battle, they overpowered the soldiers, owing to their large numbers and the weapons they carried.”
One of the military’s armored tanks was destroyed by fire.
I am unable to confirm the number of soldiers killed, but information available to me indicated that 15 soldiers and three civilians were killed.
Two of the civilians were vigilante members, and one was a traveller.
“If you want to double-check the figures, you can contact the military authorities.” The assault lasted several hours.
“There were a lot of them, and they had a lot of sophisticated weapons.” How do you expect a camp of maybe 40, 60, or even fewer soldiers to deal with a group of 100 or 200 terrorists carrying deadly weapons?”
When contacted, Mohammed Jalige, the spokesman for the Kaduna state police command, did not return phone calls.
