On Thursday, March 31, 2022, Ms. Jutta Urpilainen, European Commissioner for International Partnerships, and Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance, officially launched Ghana’s Multiannual Indicative Programme for 2021-2027.
The ceremony took place on the 30th and 31st of March, during the Commissioner’s visit to Ghana.
There was also a representative from the Ministry of Agriculture in attendance, as well as ambassadors from EU Member States and Switzerland, and the Regional Director of the EIB.
This new programming is part of the EU’s new Global Europe financing instrument, which will provide €203 million over four years to support the following three priorities: – Green growth for jobs; – Smart and sustainable cities; and – Good governance and security.
She explained that these priorities were set in collaboration with Team Europe partners and in close consultation with Ghanaian authorities, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders.
“As an economic powerhouse and a regional anchor of stability, Ghana is a strategic partner for the EU in West Africa.” “The EU sees concrete opportunities to deepen our partnership by cooperating on Ghana’s green and digital transition, security situation, and multilaterally by promoting our shared values,” said Commissioner Urpilainen.
“The EU Global Gateway strategy will serve as one of the frameworks for our partnership with Ghana,” she added, “with the goal of boosting smart, clean, and secure connections and providing the quality investment needed in Africa.”
