Mr Peter Obi, a presidential candidate running on the Peoples Democratic Party platform, stated on Wednesday in Abuja that he was not desperate to become the next president. Rather, he yearned for a better Nigeria.
This came as he urged Nigerians to focus on wealth producers rather than wealth sharers, and to question their preferred presidential candidates.
Obi revealed this after returning full copies of his expression of interest and nomination forms to the PDP office in Abuja ahead of the deadline for submission/sale of forms on April 8.
“Our country is now going through a terrible phase,” the former governor of Anambra State said. I don’t want to be president; I just want to see a better Nigeria.

The country must transition from consumption to production. There is no longer anything to share, and we require wealth creators rather than wealth sharers. We’ve spent a long time distributing money; now it’s time to start producing it.
“I come from that experience, mostly as a trader who has created riches in both the private and public sectors.” Everything must now be shut down, even the cost of governance.”
Obi, who was accompanied by Doyin Okupe, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, to Wadata Plaza, urged Nigerians to pay attention to the track records of the 13 aspirants vying for the PDP presidential ticket.
So go check out where people are coming from and all the places where I’ve been given responsibilities, including being a governor. You saw what I accomplished in Anambra State and the lives I rescued.
“I understand how to invest in micro, mid, and medium-sized businesses. Otherwise, how did a small state like Anambra wind up without owing salary or pension on the day I was turning over; no contractor who had completed his task and raised a certificate or supplied us with items was owed?
“I put N77 billion in the bank, which was almost $500 million at the time. I know what we can do to effectively turn the situation around. You must examine my personal trajectory, as well as all of the other contestants and my background. “You’ll undoubtedly notice that I’m the only one with a particularly interesting background,” he remarked.
Obi, the PDP’s Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2019 election, said the party’s leadership would eventually decide how the next presidential candidate emerges.
“Well, it’s the party,” he explained. They are the ones who make the final decision. Everyone accepts anything they say. Whatever decision they make, I will respect it.”
