Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, stated on Monday that he wants to expand Twitter’s reach beyond its current “niche” until it is used by the majority of Americans.
Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter has raised worries among staff and the general public about his strategy for governing the social media network.
He told reporters gathering on the red carpet at New York’s annual Met Gala that a key metric of success would be whether Twitter could considerably expand its audience.
“It’s currently a niche market. I’d like to see a lot larger percentage of the country on it, participating in discussions “Musk, who was in attendance with his mother, model Maye Musk, at the celebrity-studded event, added.
According to Twitter’s most recent earnings report, the US has around 40 million daily active users.
Musk stated that he wants the platform to be “as widely inclusive as possible,” with “hopefully the majority of America on it and conversing,” as well as “as trustworthy as feasible.”
The billionaire also stated that he would make Twitter clear about how tweets are promoted or demoted, and that he wanted the company’s software to be open to criticism.
“It’s a free nation,” Musk replied when asked about a possible employee departure.
If somebody is uncomfortable with that, they will go somewhere else on their own volition. “It’s all right,” he said
