Onyeka Nwafor, a 38-year-old Anambra State economist, has declared for the president in 2023 on the National Rescue Movement’s platform.
On Saturday, Nwafor, who is also a doctor, made his announcement at the Golden Mars Hotel in Udoka Estate, Awka, Anambra State.
Nwafor stated in his statement that Nigeria’s previous and current leaders have failed to effectively harness the enormous number of highly skilled and talented youths for the country’s appropriate growth.
Only the youths, according to Nwafor, have the tenacity, fitness, and insight to bring Nigeria out of the current gloomy road set by previous and current leaders.
He bemoaned the youths’ failure to put in place the enabling structure, institutions, and policies for the country’s greater good due to the leaders’ inability to do so.
“Our elected and appointed government officials have caused the vast majority of our very intelligent teaming youths to lose faith in the very fibre that holds us together as an indivisible and indissoluble nation, due to their lack of commitment to their electioneering campaign promises and party agenda,” the presidential aspirant said.
“The devastating effects of this anomaly are undeniably manifested in our rapidly deteriorating economy, poor educational system, current security breaches, unreliable and porous banking system, decline in commercial prospects, inefficient tax administration, ethno-religious crisis, decline in foreign direct investment, and skyrocketing unemployment rate,” says the report. In order to address the streams of problems listed, he emphasized that his government would focus on four major government functions: education, security, health, and electrical power supply.
He claims that the current system is incapable of moving the country ahead since it lacks development goals for both the country and its population.
He went on to say that simply allocating a large portion of the country’s budget to improving education, ensuring the safety of people and property, providing a well-equipped health sector, and ensuring a steady and uninterrupted electrical power supply would magically solve the country’s problems and propel Nigeria into the global spotlight.
