In the Katangan region of the Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State, enraged youths who went on the rampage over supposed blasphemy allegedly injured a pastor and set fire to many homes.
As at the time of reporting this report, the incident’s details were still hazy.
Our source learned that the conflict began after a post was purportedly circulated on social media accusing a Christian girl in the community of blasphemy against Islam.
“Yes, the incident is accurate,” a person who spoke with our journalist confirmed the incident. It is a result of the alleged blasphemy incident that occurred in Sokoto last week.” .
What I discovered was that a Christian girl supposedly posted and commented on something on social media related to the Sokoto event, and that was how it all began.
“Since many houses have been burned down, the atmosphere is more than just tense.” To the best of my knowledge, no life has been lost.
“A business belonging to an ECWA Church in the neighbourhood was also set ablaze. I also learned that the area’s District Head and leaders are on top of the matter. It has also been reported to the police.”
We were at home this evening when we heard shouts from a group of Muslim youngsters who went on the rampage and surrounded an ECWA church in the neighborhood.
“However, Christian teenagers and others resisted and expelled them, but only after they had burned down a church-affiliated shop.” The rioting teenagers set fire to many homes. One of the ECWA church’s pastors was gravely injured in the process; as I speak to you now, efforts are on to save his life.”
In a telephone discussion with journalists, one of the state’s leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria confirmed the occurrence.
He stated that the state’s Commissioner of Police and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Bauchi State on Christian Religious Affairs are both aware of the situation.
He urged the state’s Christian community not to allow the situation to deteriorate.
Attempts to obtain confirmation from the Bauchi State Police Command on the occurrence were unsuccessful.
