Angelique Kidjo, a Grammy-winning Beninese singer, will be inducted into the Headies Hall of Fame in 2022.
This was published on the Headies’ official Instagram page, along with the whole list of music award nominations.
The Hall of Fame special distinction was awarded on an individual of African heritage who has produced an exceptional and “amazing effect on the African entertainment business, both at home and abroad,” according to the organizers.
Apart from the Hall of Fame, other persons were honored in this edition for “excellence and remarkable impact on the entertainment business during the year under review.”
Burna Boy’s mother and manager, Bose Ogulu, and Wizkid’s manager are among those who have received such honors. Efe Omorogbe, 2Baba’s manager, and Sunday Are.
Some overseas artists were also honored for “great contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry.”
This prize went to Haitian musician Wyclef Jean, American-Senegalese singer Akon, and American rapper Diddy.
The 2022 Headies Award nominees were released on Tuesday, with songs like Wizkid’s “Essence” and Ayra Starr’s “Bloody Samaritan” receiving many nods.
Portable, Magixx, and other fast-rising artists were among the first-timers on the list.
The Headies Awards will be held at the COBB Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia in 2022.
