On Friday, Riyad Mahrez extended his contract with Premier League champion Manchester City for two more years.
Mahrez, an Algerian winger who helped City win the English championship, has been given a new contract that keeps him at the club through 2025.
Mahrez has played 189 times for Pep Guardiola’s team since joining them from Leicester four years ago for £60 million ($71 million), tallying 63 goals and 45 assists.
With City, the 31-year-old has three Premier League championships, three League Cups, and one FA Cup.
“I’m overjoyed to sign the new contract. I have relished every second of my stay here. Being a part of such a fantastic club is a pleasure, Mahrez added.
It has been a memorable experience to have contributed to our success over the previous four seasons, and it has fueled our desire to work even harder to achieve even more. “Now I simply want to try and play my bit in helping us be successful next season and beyond,” Pep said. “I would also like to thank Pep, Txiki (Begiristain), and the coaching staff, both for the way they have helped me to develop as a player and for pushing me to continue improving.
Following the exits of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, Mahrez appears ready to play a significant role this season. Mahrez scored 24 goals for City last season in all competitions.
In the four years since he joined us, Riyad has significantly contributed to our success, according to City director of football Txiki Begiristain.
We are all really thrilled to know that he will be a part of our continued effort to try and achieve greater success because he is one of the most dynamic wingers now playing in the game.
