According to rumours in Germany, Chelsea attacker Timo Werner has consented to accept a 50% wage cut in order to return to RB Leipzig.
The 26-year-old struggled to make an impression at Chelsea after making the £47.5 million switch from RB Leipzig to Stamford Bridge in 2020.
Werner, who has 89 appearances for Chelsea and 23 goals in those 89, started just 15 Premier League games last season and is eager to see more action before Germany’s World Cup campaign in Qatar later this year.
Bild claims that RB Leipzig and Chelsea are currently negotiating a deal in which Werner might be signed on a first-round loan with an option to purchase.
According to the article, Werner is prepared to move back to Leipzig and is willing to take a 50% wage cut to facilitate the transition.
Werner’s current contract pays him about £275,000 each week, and Juventus is also interested in the forward.
This week, Werner’s former RB Leipzig teammate Yussuf Poulsen commented, “I hope he is coming back, he is a wonderful player.”
We are a squad seeking to advance and grow into one of the top clubs in Europe; to do so, you need excellent players. We’ve had a successful partnership in the past.
Thomas Tuchel claimed last week that Werner, 26, “has a point to prove” at Stamford Bridge when questioned about the possibility of the midfielder departing Chelsea before the end of the transfer window.
Tuchel remarked, “I don’t know about it; Timo hasn’t talked to me about it.”
‘At the moment, I believe he wants to succeed at Chelsea. He still needs to make a point.
Werner stated earlier this month that he wanted to get more playing time before the World Cup.
I might be content wherever, Werner remarked.
It is obvious that I want to play more and that I should play more to both improve my chances of playing at the World Cup and to first be in shape for it.
Whether the World Cup is held in the winter or the summer, nothing changes. I believe that I should play, whether it’s for the entire season or only a portion of it. In my opinion, nothing has changed.
