It comes after the earlier this week disclosure that we had agreed a deal with Villa for the 18-year-long-term old’s transfer to Stamford Bridge.
One of the best players in the country, the midfield all-arounder recently assisted England in winning the Under-19 European Championship by scoring in the championship match against Israel. He played in each game for the Young Lions and was named to UEFA’s Team of the Tournament after a string of impressive showings. Chukwuemeka began his youth career with Northampton Town, transferred to Villa at the age of 12, and eventually made his senior Premier League debut in May 2021 against Tottenham.
His ability to carry the ball and sense for an incisive pass have been crucial components in his quick ascent through the ranks.
A week later, he assisted Villa to their first triumph in the FA Youth Cup competition in 19 years with a 2-1 victory against Liverpool in the championship game. He also finished the competition with the most goals scored. In the Premier League season finale at Villa Park against Chelsea, he came off the bench and was also voted Academy Player of the Season.
‘Carney is one of the most exciting young players in Europe, therefore we are tremendously looking forward to seeing him in action at Stamford Bridge,’ said Todd Boehly, chairman.
‘We are building for the now and the future so signing one of the hottest young prospects in English football fits with both those ambitions,’ Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, the club’s co-controlling owners, stated. Chelsea has demonstrated that this club can realize the potential of young players, and under our ownership, we are determined that this will continue. We anticipate Carney thriving in this environment.
