After Thomas Tuchel was fired from his position as head coach of Chelsea on Wednesday, Graham Potter has been introduced as the new coach.
Following Tuesday night’s Champions League loss to Dinamo Zagreb, the club’s new owner Todd Boehly rushed quickly to fire the German, with the intention of immediately replacing him before the club’s weekend Premier League matchup with Fulham. The Stamford Bridge team announced that Potter has now been positively identified as that person and has signed a five-year contract. Three employees will also be relocating with Potter, and Brighton is anticipated to get compensation in the neighborhood of £16 million.
Given that Tuchel was heavily involved in selecting transfer targets this summer, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was signed just one week ago, and other high-profile signings like Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, and Raheem Sterling, Chelsea’s move was all the more surprising at this point in the season.
