Nemanja Matic of AS Roma responded to Manchester United great Roy Keane by claiming that Keane doesn’t “get that football has evolved.”
Matic made this statement in response to Keane’s criticism of the player’s April remark that Chelsea, Man United, and Benfica would “always be in his heart.”
“Where are the club’s standards?” On Sky Sports at the time, Keane questioned.
“Matic is talking about how I’m leaving, I’ve had a terrific time, and Man United will always hold a special place in my heart, along with Chelsea and Benfica—don’t forget about them!
Matic has already responded to Keane’s criticism, saying that he doesn’t give a damn what the footballer has to say about him.
I respect what he has done, but he needs to realize that football has evolved, the 34-year-old told the Times.
“I cannot claim to despise Chelsea if I had ever played for them. When I am speaking to the media following the game, I cannot be angry.
“The way he behaved on the pitch, 70% of it is a red card today,” Matic continued. When there are cameras around, you are unable to punch.
“I don’t really care what he says in public because he was always really polite to me. The real hero is when you go out on the street and say something. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished in my career.
Matic rejoined Jose Mourinho at Roma after parting ways with Man United at the end of the previous campaign.
