After his team’s LaLiga victory over Real Mallorca on Saturday, Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, broke a record previously held by Zinedine Zidane, the former Real Madrid head coach.
Thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s game-winning goal last night, Barcelona narrowly defeated Real Mallorca away from home, setting a new personal best for Xavi.
Since Xavi joined Barcelona in November of last year, the team has won 18 games while playing away from home in La Liga.
Under Xavi, Barcelona has not yet suffered a defeat away from home.
It sets a new record for the longest unbeaten streak by a manager away from home in Spanish football.
When Zidane was in charge of Real Madrid, he held the previous record.
During his post-game press conference, Xavi responded by expressing little worry for the record.
According to the Spaniard, records aren’t very useful if they don’t come with titles, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. It indicates that we are both at home and on the correct track.
“If they translate to titles, the records taste better, but at the moment they are anecdotal.”
