Frankie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, has informed coach Xavi Hernandez that he does not want to leave the team.
The midfielder begs Xavi for more time since he is uncomfortable with how few games he has started for the Catalan team this year.
The Dutch midfielder was wanted by Manchester United last summer but insisted on staying at Camp Nou.
According to reports from late last week, the former Ajax midfielder is dissatisfied at Barcelona and wants to move to Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old believed he would be an essential member of Xavi’s star-studded Barcelona squad.
He had almost 30 starts in La Liga the previous season, but his current campaign has not gone as planned as he has only had three starts.
De Jong is reportedly frustrated with the situation and his annoyance will only grow if he isn’t reinstated into the starting lineup, according to the Spanish daily Sport.
The Dutchman expressed his feelings to reporters ahead of the El Clasico, saying, “We don’t talk much with Xavi, but we just talk about football. I was aware that my season would start with fewer playing opportunities.
“I want to be a starter again. Against Bayern, I wasn’t a starter and I hope to be against Real Madrid. Maybe he already decided, but usually we don’t know until the day of the game.
“I was calm. I decided in May, that I wanted to stay.
“My opinion has never changed during all this period. I remained calm. But then you know that the pressure would start coming from the newspapers, from the president, from everywhere in fact. But I wanted to stay at Barca, so it never bothered me.”
