Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, praised President Buhari for authorizing all of the money due to the Niger Delta governments since 1999.
Wike clarified that some of the funds went toward the several projects his administration had undertaken.
The governor was giving a speech on Friday at the state government-built Doctor Nabo Graham Douglas Law School’s commissioning.
Despite belonging to a different political party, he praised the president for not using the money for political purposes.
“Money that was not paid since 1999, the 13% deductions, Mr. President approved and paid all of us from Niger Delta states,” he claimed.
“For me, keeping my information from the public would be unfair. This money was given to me by the states of Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Bayelsa, not FAAC funds.
As an opposition administration, he might as well have said, “Don’t pay, you can’t do anything, so I want to sincerely thank Mr. President for this on behalf of the government and people of the state.
“After all, the money hasn’t been paid since 1999. Did we take any action?
“Therefore, just on that one, I want to sincerely thank him.”
