Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his “best wishes to Manchester United” following the club’s Tuesday contract termination.
In a statement of his own, the 37-year-old expressed his admiration for the Premier League and its followers.
However, Ronaldo said that it was the ideal time “to seek a new challenge.”
“I love Manchester United, and I love the supporters; that will never change,” he said in his statement.
But now seems like the perfect time for me to look for a fresh challenge.
“I wish the team nothing but success for the rest of the year and beyond,”
The Portugal captain’s contract was terminated by United as a result of his contentious Piers Morgan interview.
Ronaldo claimed in the two-part interview that he had “no respect” for manager Erik ten Hag and felt “betrayed” by the team.
