According to television host Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo should have been given credit for the opening goal Portugal scored against Uruguay in their World Cup match on Monday night.
Bruno Fernandes scored twice as Portugal defeated Uruguay 2-0 in their second World Cup match.
Ronaldo appeared to head home Fernandes’ excellent cross midway through the second half, giving the 2016 champions of Europe the advantage.
However, replays appeared to show that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner did not touch the ball, and Fernandes was ultimately given the goal.
The forward, a former member of Manchester United, had, nevertheless, celebrated as though he had scored.
In response, Morgan, who just gave a contentious interview to Ronaldo, thinks the former Real Madrid player touched the ball.
“Ronaldo touched that ball. He should be awarded the goal,” Morgan wrote on Twitter.
Portugal has officially joined France and Brazil in the round of 16 of the World Cup thanks to their victory over Uruguay.
