Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, has declared he won’t mark the occasion of playing in 1,000 career games.
Argentina defeated Australia 2-1 in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup, and Messi scored once more.
The 35-year-old has acknowledged that his primary feeling after passing a physical examination barely 48 hours after their final group stage encounter was relief.
Messi is not acknowledging this personal accomplishment despite having reached yet another career milestone and exceeding Diego Maradona’s record of eight World Cup goals.
Messi refused to celebrate his 1,000th game when asked on Argentine television if he would. We didn’t get much rest before this game and we weren’t really recovered well.
The game was also highly physically demanding.
“We said it was crazy and not enough rest when we found out we had to play again in three days, but at the same time we wanted to be here for what it feels like, for what this represents, and for our fans,”
