Cristiano Ronaldo won’t start Portugal’s World Cup 2022 quarterfinal match against Morocco, according to coach Fernando Santos.
For their 6-1 victory over Switzerland on Tuesday in the Round of 16, Ronaldo was benched.
Goncalo Ramos, 21, who took his place scored a hat-trick. Pepe, Raphael Guerreiro, and replacement Rafael Leao also scored goals.
On Saturday, Santos’ team will play Morocco for a spot in the semi-finals.
Santos responded, “Ronaldo will absolutely (be involved), and all the players on the bench can be used,” when asked if he would play against the Atlas Lions.
“They can play later if they are not in the starting lineup.
“It’s crucial to consider this player’s past as an example. All of us need to do is keep the team as a whole in mind. He’s one of the best players in the world at playing professionally.
