Walid Regragui, the manager of Morocco, claimed that his nation had shifted its allegiance to France after that nation’s semi-final exit on Wednesday.
After losing to the world champions 2-0, he claims that Morocco would now back France to win the tournament in Qatar.
Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani’s goals at the Al Bayt Stadium put a stop to Morocco’s historic record as the first African team to go to a World Cup semifinal.
Regragui addressed the media following the game to disclose who he will support in the final on Sunday.
“This was one step too far. We had too many players at 60-70% fitness. My players gave everything. They have gone as far as they could. We will support France now,” he said.
If France defeats Argentina on Sunday, they would become the first country to win back-to-back World Cups since 1960.
