Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper for Argentina, retaliated to Kylian Mbappe of France after the Paris Saint-Germain star said South American football is “not as sophisticated as Europe.”
When Argentina and France face off in the Qatar 2022 World Cup final on Sunday, Martinez will be in goal and will attempt to stop Mbappe.
As both players have five goals, Mbappe and Lionel Messi of Argentina are vying for the tournament’s Golden Boot.
However, Mbappe made a comparison between the quality of football in Europe and South America prior to the World Cup, asserting that European teams always have an advantage because players compete in high-level matches frequently, such as the Nations League, and claiming that South American teams do not play at such a level.
On the eve of the World Cup final, when asked about Mbappe’s evaluation, Martinez said the 23-year-old should stop talking if he has no idea what he is talking about.
“He doesn’t know enough about football.
“He never played in South America. When you don’t have this experience, it may be better not to talk about it.
“But it doesn’t matter. We are a great team, recognised as such.”
