Political leaders, according to Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), are erring by publicly endorsing candidates in advance of the elections scheduled for next year.
This was said by Kwankwaso on Wednesday when he paid a visit to Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki at the Government House in Benin.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ijaw national leader Edwin Clark have just come forward to support Peter Obi, the candidate for president of the Labour Party (LP).
Now, Kwankwaso has claimed that the endorsements were motivated by racial and religious feelings.
Some of the people—whose support of Mr. A or Mr. B has been shown on the news—are doing something that, in my opinion, is gravely mistaken. I regard these people as leaders. There comes a period in your life when you transform from politician to true statesman.
“I can assure you that any party or candidate that raises the question of race or religion at the national level has already lost the election before it has even begun, I can also say that.
“I also want to give our leaders some advice: stop defaming yourselves. They are people we respect so much,” Kwankwaso remarked.
