The possibility of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo reuniting in the Middle East has prompted a response from the Saudi Football Federation.
The most lucrative sports contract ever was signed by Portuguese superstar Ronaldo when he joined the Saudi club Al-Nasr.
Al-Hilal has reportedly made a £246 million ($305 million) offer for Messi, topping the deal, despite the Argentinean World Cup winner still having yet to agree to a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
The general secretary of the Saudi Football Federation, Ibrahim Alkassim, claims to be unaware of such an offer being prepared for Messi.
He told Marca:
“At the moment we do not know anything about a possible Lionel Messi arrival. Although I do not hide that, as Saudi Federation, we would like to have him one day in the domestic league. The idea of the Federation is always to improve our football, and of course we would like to see Cristiano and Messi in the same league again, but the truth is that we don’t know anything now.”
