Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the youth arm of the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, has stated that it has not yet endorsed a presidential candidate.
Nearly all regional organizations have endorsed their preferred presidential candidate within two weeks before the election.
However, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the national president of OYC, said in a statement to journalists on Saturday that the organization had not yet endorsed any candidates.
In light of a large number of Igbo sons running for president on February 25, Okwu said the Igbo group was still consulting before making a decision.
He said, “We are happy that on February 25, when Nigerians go to the polls, we have capable Igbo sons running for president.
“Among them is Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party. In addition, we have Justice Peter Umeadi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who is running for vice president in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and others.
“All of these Igbo leaders are skilled, tried, and trustworthy individuals who have excelled in a variety of leadership positions.
This is the basis for our ongoing deliberations before we finally declare our preference for a presidential candidate. This decision will be made within the next several days, he added.
