The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, who is running for president, has provided an explanation for why Peter Obi defected to the labour party before the PDP’s 2022 presidential primary.
Speaking at a press conference on the outcome of the February 25 Presidential election in Abuja on Thursday, Atiku claimed Obi left the PDP because he was afraid of the demands of the party’s governors, adding that he was in a “rush”.
Atiku said, “I think Peter [Obi] was in a rush. When the campaign started, and our PDP governors sat down and said they must produce the presidential and vice presidential candidates, the chief of staff among themselves, Peter, got scared and left.
The LP, according to the former governor of Anambra, is the appropriate platform since it supports his “aspirations and my credo of moving the nation from consumption to production.”
Atiku and Obi both came in last in the 2023 presidential election, which was held last Saturday.
Both men finished in second and third place, respectively, behind Bola Tinubu of the APC, who was declared the election’s victor by the INEC.
Since then, Tinubu has obtained his Certificate of Return.
