The Black Stars have received a warning from Central African Republic (CAR) head coach Raoul Savoy ahead of their upcoming match in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
The two countries are vying for a spot in the 2023 AFCON competition, which will take place in Ivory Coast the following year. Ghana is now leading Group E with nine points, while CAR is in third place with seven points behind Angola, who are on eight.
Because of the point differential, Ghana must win or draw on Thursday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to guarantee its place in the tournament. In contrast, CAR must win.
Nevertheless, Savoy is upbeat and has referred Ghana to their stunning victory over Nigeria two years ago at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos during a 2022 World Cup qualifier.
He thinks the Wild Beasts have what it takes to surprise the four-time defending African champions like they stunned the Super Eagles.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the game Savoy said: “Nigeria never expected us to beat them at home but we did,” he told the media during Wednesday’s press conference ahead of the game.
“You never know [what we can do]. I have respect for Ghana because they are far better than us as a football nation but football is the most lovely game in the world because every time, every day you have surprises,” he added.
In preparation for the eagerly awaited encounter against Ghana, which begins at 16:00GMT, CAR trained at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday.
