After tossing a bottle at Mauricio Pochettino during Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, Cole Palmer apologized to the manager.
In their Saturday London derby match against Arsenal, Chelsea let a two-goal lead slip, and Leandro Trossard scored a thrilling equalizer for the guests six minutes from time. At the time of Trossard’s goal, Palmer, who started the scoring from the penalty spot, was getting a drink and accidentally hit Pochettino with a bottle while throwing it away.
The 21-year-old quickly apologized to his coach, but when speaking to Chelsea’s official website about the event, he made a joke about maybe losing his spot in the team. I was getting a drink when they scored the second goal,” Palmer remarked.
As you do, I went and threw the bottle away, but I didn’t look. I just witnessed it circle extremely slowly and strike the gaffer. After the game, I apologized in full and said I was sorry to him. I’m hoping he won’t dump me because of that.
We get along well, he continued on his relationship with Pochettino. Every day while training, I attempt to demonstrate my abilities to him. He has a lot of faith in us, so work hard and just try to return him.
Palmer has scored twice and provided an assist in each of his first six Premier League games for Chelsea since joining the club from Manchester City for £42.5 million ($52 million) in the summer.
The England U21 international only had a small part to play at the Etihad Stadium when Pep Guardiola was in charge, but he has already cemented himself as a regular for the Blues and is hungry to contribute even more as the season goes on. “I adore being at Chelsea. Even off the field with the guys, every day is good,” Palmer said
To try to have an influence, I came to Chelsea. I’m glad I took immediate action. I have to try to improve every day and give more and more, but credit to the guys; they’re all good and helped me settle in and whatnot.
Following his impressive performance against Arsenal, Palmer is expected to keep his spot in Pochettino’s team as Chelsea gears up for a home match against Brentford on October 28.
