Australia declared it would not submit a bid to host the World Cup, hence Saudi Arabia will host the competition in 2034.
FIFA received a letter of intent from the Kingdom earlier this month, following the announcement by the sport’s governing body that only bids from Asia and Oceania will be taken into consideration for 2034.
After the announcement of Football Australia’s withdrawal, Saudi Arabia is not expected to encounter any opposition.
Football Australia released a statement saying, “We have investigated the opportunity to bid to host the FIFA World Cup and – having taken all factors into consideration we will not take part for the 2034 competition.”
” we think we are in a good place to receive the best teams in world football for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup as well as host the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.”
In order to be considered for hosting the 2034 World Cup, countries must formally indicate their interest by October 31 and submit a signed bid package by November 30.
Then, in late 2024, FIFA members will have a chance to officially endorse the 2034 hosts.
At first, Saudi Arabia was predicted to submit a bid for the 2030 World Cup. The plan to co-host the event with Greece, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia was shelved, and Saudi Arabia now wants to serve as the tournament’s exclusive host in 2034
