Philip Kayode Moses, better known as Pheelz, is a record producer and vocalist who has expressed regret about the decline of true musical love among Nigerian musicians.
During an interview with media personality Ehiz on The Dadaboy Show, Pheelz claimed that Nigerian musicians are now more focused on the lucrative music industry than the art form itself.
He asserted that Nigerian manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and artists are all the same.
But although he stressed that only excellent music can endure, he cautioned that marketing tactics are fleeting.
“We [Nigerian artists] are losing that love for music,” Pheelz declared. Manufacturing is beginning to take place there. It’s beginning to seem like we’re producing soaps in the same way that we make iPhones.
It’s beginning to seem redundant, as like we’re losing our creative spirit and secret sauce. It’s turning into a job. Nowadays, promoting is more difficult than creating the song itself. These days, marketing and advertising are more important than the actual craft.
“It’s about the music for me, and I don’t know about anyone else. There is only one item that will endure over time. Strategies for marketing will change throughout time. We shouldn’t give that much thought. We no longer market music in the same manner as we did in the past.
So, what are we doing, I ask? What are we doing if we merely follow buzz and clout instead of truly praising great music these days? Then, are we actually creating music?
