Prior to the release of third-quarter GDP figures on Tuesday, the South African rand saw a modest decrease in early trading.
The rand was down 0.1% from its previous finish at 18.8350 against the dollar at 08:25 GMT.
The dollar gained 0.1% versus a global currency basket last time it traded.
Figures At 09:30 GMT, South Africa will release its GDP figures (ZAGDPY=ECI), (ZAGDPN=ECI). According to Reuters surveyed analysts, these figures will show a 0.2% year-over-year fall and a 0.1% quarter-over-quarter contraction.
According to a PMI survey released on Tuesday, private sector business activity in South Africa stagnated in November as supply chain interruptions brought on by a port crisis offset a slowdown in pricing pressures.
The blue-chip Top-40 index (.JTOPI) on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange was down roughly 0.5% in early trading. The benchmark 2030 government bond for South Africa has a lower yield, rising 2.5 basis points to 9.985%.
