Along with two other people, Henry Fitz, the person involved in a naked video scandal on social media involving media celebrity Serwaa Amihere, has been charged for allegedly releasing the private film online.
Serwaa Amihere filed a complaint, and the police responded.
As per the information provided in the charge sheet that was submitted in court, Serwaa Amihere had to pay a ransom to stop the release of the naked footage. Nevertheless, the three accused people continued to post the footage on social media after getting the GH¢20,000 ransom demand.
The three are accused of conspiring to commit a crime, namely sharing private photos without consent, which is against both Section 67(1)(2) of the Cybersecurity Act and Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
They also allegedly threatened to post the footage on social media if Serwaa Amihere did not comply with their demands, extorting GH¢20,000 from her.
The other defendants in the lawsuit are the dealer Candylove Kwakyewaa Ababio and the filmmaker Edem Saviour Ketti.
The police claim that Henry Amponsah, also known as Henry Fitz, is one of the accused and is now trying to avoid arrest.
Four counts of sexual extortion, non-consensual sharing of intimate photographs, and conspiracy to share intimate images are brought against the defendants.
The charge sheet’s supporting documentation states that on December 3, 2023, Serwaa Amihere’s makeup artist told her that someone had asked GH¢5,000 to stop the dissemination of private photos. On April 2, 2024, GH¢20,000 was demanded once more.
The pictures and videos were circulated on social media even after the ransom was paid.
Ketti was taken into custody after Amihere’s accusation, and in the course of the investigation, he acknowledged using his Ghana Card to register the MTN mobile money account number. After that, the number was given to Candylove, who gave it to Fitz, who is thought to be using it right now.
There are plans in place to capture Fitz and prosecute him.
