On Tuesday, Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain tied the record set by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the team’s former striker, for most goals scored in the UEFA Champions League.
This was made possible by Mbappe’s brace for PSG against Barcelona in their quarterfinal matchup’s second leg.
PSG led 6-4 overall at the end of regulation after the France captain converted a penalty in the 61st minute and then scored his second goal in the 89th after Jules Kounde made a mistake.
The 25-year-old has now matched Ibrahimovic’s scoring record of 48 goals in 124 games with 48 goals in 71 Champions League outings.
In the upcoming weeks, Mbappe will get another chance to break Ibrahimovic’s record for goals scored when PSG plays Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals.
