Anita Pointer, a Grammy-winning vocalist, passed away at age 74 after a cancer struggle.
On New Year’s Eve, the singer passed away at her Los Angeles, California, home while being attended by her family.
Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters passed away after a valiant fight with cancer, according to a statement from Pointer’s family posted on Instagram on Sunday.
“Although we are extremely saddened by her passing, we find solace in the knowledge that she is now with her daughters, Jada and June, and sisters June and Bonnie. With Anita there, heaven is a more lovely and loving place, it continued.
Anita was a founding member of the R&B group The Pointer Sisters, known for their international singles like “I’m So Excited,” “Jump,” and “Fire.”
The Oakland, California-based quartet, which also included the sisters Ruth and June, released their debut album in 1973 and went on to win three Grammys.
