Former Liverpool winger John Barnes claims that Cristiano Ronaldo’s second stint at Old Trafford had a “very bad influence” on two Manchester United players.
After a series of confrontations with manager Erik ten Hag, Ronaldo’s contract with Manchester United was terminated in November.
Ronaldo unexpectedly returned to Manchester United in August 2021, and he made a big impression by scoring 24 goals across all competitions in the previous campaign.
Barnes thinks that one of the reasons the England attackers regressed was because of the 37-year-old Portugal captain, Ronaldo, who had a “very bad effect” on Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
In 30 games across all competitions, Rashford has scored 18 goals, including seven in his past six games.
“Rashford will be a fantastic player for Manchester United,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets.
“I would like to see Sancho given an opportunity to revive his career.
“I think Ronaldo had a very negative effect on the players whilst he was there. Just his presence.
“A lot of the players went backwards because of him and the influence he had,” he said.
