On Tuesday, Eden Hazard announced his retirement from football on social media. “You must listen to yourself and stay stop at the right time,” he tweeted. Hazard won the Premier League twice while playing for Chelsea.
At Stamford Bridge, Hazard won two Premier League championships before transferring to Real Madrid in 2019.
However, the Belgian had a history of injuries, appearing in just 76 games over four seasons with Real before leaving in the summer.
He posted on Instagram, saying, “You must listen to yourself and stop when the time is right.
“After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.”I was able to fulfill my dream, and I have enjoyed playing on numerous fields all over the world.
“During my career, I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and team-mates – thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all.”
The 2015 PFA Players’ Player of the Year, Hazard, said, “I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea, and Real Madrid. I also want to thank the RBFA for selecting me to represent Belgium.
“I would especially like to thank my family, friends, advisors, and those who have been at my side through good and difficult times.
“A big thank you to all of my fans who have supported me over the years and have encouraged me wherever I have performed.
“This is the time for me to be with my loved ones and try new things. Soon, my friends, I’ll see you off the field.
Hazard joined Chelsea from Lille in 2012 for £32 million, and during his time there, he scored 110 goals in 352 games.
During his tenure at Stamford Bridge, he won the FA Cup, League Cup, two Premier League championships, two Europa Leagues, and two Super Cups.
Hazard joined Real Madrid in July 2019 in a deal worth a club record £130 million, plus bonuses.
Hazard initially agreed to a five-year contract that would last until 2024, but injuries and inconsistent play marred his time at the Bernabeu.
In 76 appearances during his stint at Real, he scored seven goals, including 10 in all competitions during the 2022–23 season.
Two LaLiga championships, one Champions League, and one Copa Del Rey are just a few of the trophies won by the club.
